LOS ANGELES -- Clayton Kershaw offered to pitch on short rest again in Game 5 of the NL Championship Series for the Los Angeles Dodgers, but was turned down in favor of starting Game 6 on Saturday against the Cubs in Chicago. The series was tied 2-all going into Thursday nights game at Dodger Stadium, where struggling rookie Kenta Maeda took the mound for Los Angeles against Jon Lester. My stance is always the same, Kershaw said. I always tell them Ill do whatever they want. I told them Id pitch today if they wanted me to and pitch Game 6 if they wanted me to.The left-hander earned the victory in Game 2 at Wrigley Field, allowing two hits over seven scoreless innings while striking out six and walking one. Hes prepared to face boisterous Cubs fans again. The Cubs were 57-24 at home this season, their most wins at Wrigley in franchise history.Obviously, the fans are pretty excited about their team this year and rightfully so, Kershaw said. Theyve been waiting a long time for them to win. Hopefully we can either prolong it one more day or kind of clinch it in Game 6.Manager Dave Roberts said after Chicagos 10-2 win on Wednesday that he had ruled Kershaw out for Game 5 because it wasnt an elimination game. The accumulation of his usage over the last ten days plays a factor in our decision, Roberts said.Kershaw is 2-0 with a 3.72 ERA in three starts and one relief appearance this postseason. Overall, the three-time Cy Young Award winner is 4-6 with a 4.39 ERA in 17 career playoff appearances. When he takes the mound Saturday, it will be on an extra days rest. Its kind of nice, he said. Havent had that in a while, so its good. Should be ready to go.Kershaw will oppose Kyle Hendricks, whose 2.13 ERA was tops in the majors this season. The right-hander allowed a solo homer in 5 1/3 innings of Game 2, his longest career postseason start. The Cubs lost 1-0.Kershaw called Hendricks kind of like the Greg Maddux of this generation. With his ability to sink the ball, cut the ball, and put him in spots where hitters are enticed to swing at it, but you cant put the barrel on it, Kershaw said. Hes really good at mixing speeds, changing it up. Hes a tough guy to go against, for sure. The Dodgers relied heavily on Kershaw to advance out of the NL Division Series against Washington. He picked up his first career save in the decisive Game 5 by retiring the final two batters in the ninth. In Game 4, he struck out 11.Air Max Plus Clearance . -- Anaheim Ducks captain and leading scorer Ryan Getzlaf has been scratched from Sunday nights game against the Vancouver Canucks because of an upper-body injury. He was limited during the portion of practice open to reporters, but showed no signs of pain or struggling on the practice field. After suffering a setback two weeks into the season -- which resulted in Watkins being placed on injured reserve -- the Bills and Watkins are playing it safe when it comes to his full return.Obviously were encouraged by the fact that he has been cleared to participate. I think thats a good sign, Bills coach Rex Ryan said. He feels good, so well see how it goes. ... Well be smart with him.Watkins missed most of the offseason after having surgery in April, when he had two screws inserted into his left foot to repair a stress fracture. He aggravated the injury in Week 3 when a teammate stepped on his foot at a walk-through.During the open portion of practice on Wednesday, Watkins ran a couple of uncontested routes in individual drills before using a stationary bike.Watkins gave receivers coach Sanjay Lal a thumbs-up and was in good spirits when talking with Bills trainers.First day of practice, getting all the butterflies out, moving fast and just really trying to get back on the same page, Watkins said.I think 90 percent of the game is mental and I think Im over that hump and really have just got to get back out there running routes, playing with the guys, catching balls.Right now Im not feeling normal out there, but I think two or three days Ill start feeling back myself and moving along.Asked if he could play in a game on Thursday, Watkins responded probably not -- yet there is a chance he may play on Sunday.dddddddddddd The biggest hurdle at this point seems to be stamina, not pain.Just really getting back used to seeing if I can go out there and run 60 plays full speed, Watkins said.I dont think its the injury, or what I can do or cant do. I just think its what can you do this Sunday. Can you go out there and run 10 plays, 15, 30, 60, we dont know yet. ... I did 20 today. Gotta get in shape. The Bills are in need for some reinforcements at wide receiver. No. 2 option Robert Woods, who has been Buffalos top option in the passing game with Watkins missing, is likely out because of a knee sprain.Buffalo is last in the league in passing.I think the health of Sammy is the big question, whether Roberts healthy or not, Ryan said.Make sure Sammys ready to go before hes out there. As much as we want him, obviously hes a difference-maker when hes out, there so I get it.Watkins isnt the only key offensive player whose status is in question for Sunday.Running back LeSean McCoy had surgery on his left thumb Sunday night after suffering an injury in Buffalos 16-12 win over Cincinnati. The Bills have maintained that they expect McCoy to play against Jacksonville, but must wait to see how the week goes. The big thing is making sure his thumb doesnt get infected, Ryan said. Thats the No. 1 thing. If that stays clean, then theres no issue there.Backup running back Mike Gillislee left Wednesdays practice with a hamstring injury, but its not believed to be serious.
