LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Chicago Bears wide receiver Kevin White?was placed on injured reserve after he suffered a severe high ankle sprain that resulted in a fractured fibula in his left leg.The Bears have not ruled out the possibility that White will undergo surgery, but the team is currently exploring all options before making a final determination,?general manager Ryan Pace said Wednesday.White, the seventh overall pick of the 2015 NFL draft, sat out his entire rookie season due to a stress fracture in his left shin. At the time of that injury, White had a steel rod inserted into his tibia to stabilize the left leg.Bears coach John Fox said he believes White can still have a productive career and pointed to Demaryius Thomas as an example of a player who didnt take off until his third year in the NFL.I go back to even my experience in Denver with Demaryius Thomas. He probably didnt do a whole lot until Year 3, Fox said. So he had setbacks and he was injured coming out of college. He had an Achilles injury after that and a finger injury after that and he had two surgeries in his first year and a half of NFL football. Hes turned out pretty good.Whites latest setback occurred last Sunday when he left the Bears 17-14 victory over the Detroit Lions in the third quarter following a 1-yard completion. White limped back to the sideline and eventually went to the locker room. White was in considerable pain in the postgame locker room, and he underwent a preliminary MRI on Monday. The timing of the injury is particularly unfortunate. After a slow start to the season, White played with increased confidence in recent weeks, leading the team in receptions (19). White is also third in receiving yards (187).I thought it was by far his best game [in Week 4], Fox said Monday. I think he was real aggressive. I think he caught some contested balls. I think after the catch I felt he was aggressive to get extra yards after the catch. I thought it was his best performance.I think when youre not thinking and you kind of know what youre doing, you just cut loose and play, which is ideally what you want guys to do. I think it comes with that experience.White is eligible to return in eight weeks.Swell Wood Water Bottle . JOHNS, N.MADISON, Wis. -- One start into his college career, Wisconsin quarterback Alex Hornibrook has shown he can handle big-game pressure.Hornibrook stood firm in the pocket and made third-down completions into tight coverage in the eighth-ranked Badgers win over Michigan State. The stakes are only going to get higher this weekend at No. 4 Michigan. Its really just confidence, being able to know that you can make those passes, receiver Robert Wheelwright said about Hornibrooks third-down throws.Hornibrooks poise and accuracy have stood out, especially for a redshirt freshman. Coach Paul Chryst, known as a quarterback guru and a stickler for preparation, also likes how Hornibrook gets ready for games. That takes time and theres a lot that goes into it, Chryst said. Its never-ending.All that work has paid off so far for Wisconsin (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten). A consistent passing game can make defenses think twice about stacking the box to stop lead running back Corey Clement.Hornibrook was 16 of 26 for 195 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the 30-6 win over the Spartans. The offense was 7 of 16 on third downs. Some of those conversions didnt look easy.On the first touchdown drive, Hornibrook found receiver Jazz Peavy for a 25-yard gain on third-and-10 from the Badgers 35. He hit well-covered tight end Troy Fumagalli to convert a third-and-2 later in the drive.I saw him throw one to Fumagalli, its a tight window, and it was like, `Dang, I see you, Wheelwright recounted on Tuesday about Horrnibrooks impressive throw.ddddddddddddhree plays later, Hornibrook found Wheelwright for a 9-yard gain on third down to get to the Michigan State 3. The Badgers then converted the second of two successful fourth-down tries on the drive to set up a 1-yard touchdown pass to tight end Eric Steffes. He put them in a perfect spot, Peavy said. It feels just like practice most of the time when they look that easy like that. I wouldnt say theyre tough at all.It could go smoother if Wisconsin could get into shorter third-down situations. Its a crucial goal on the road on Saturday against the Wolverines, who are holding opponents to just 12 percent on third-down conversions. But if its a third-and-long, Wisconsin has shown that it can convert, too. Now that Hornibrook has proven that he can make those critical throws under pressure, receivers know they might have a little more leeway if their timing is a bit off.Just knowing sometimes you might not always get your depth, or you might not always be exactly where you need to be, but if you have good timing and good chemistry, you can still find those holes, Wheelwright said.
